Chapter Fourteen

Kodi set her tray on the bar, relieved her shift was finally finished. The club was unusually crowded for a Friday night, but that hadn’t been the problem. Her issue was with her traitorous body and the two men who’d tracked her every movement all evening. They might have given her the day to herself, but they hadn’t let her out of their sight since returning upstairs at five o’clock.

She’d made good progress on her next book without the distractions of the local library. And since she didn’t have the password to connect to the internet, she’d spent the entire day working. The reality of how much time she wasted surfing social media was humbling at best and downright terrifying at worst. Pushing that realization forcefully out of her mind, she decided it was best to ignore it for now. God only knows what Taz would do with that piece of information. Shaking her head at her wayward thoughts, Kodi realized submitting her next book was going to require finding an excuse to go to the library alone or asking for their password. Dammit to rotten moth balls, both of those options held inherent dangers.

Warm arms encircled her just before she could slide all the way into full-blown panic. “What’s got you teetering on the edge of a meltdown, baby?” Taz’s body heat and sweet words immediately set her body on an entirely different course. She’d enjoyed the light dinner they’d shared upstairs, even if the healthy fare had been sorely lacking in all things flavorful. What was it with former SEALs and their almost religious avoidance of all things tasty? You’d think it was a crime to eat anything with salt or sugar in it. His soft chuckle brought her back to his question. “Come on. We’ll hit the snack table, and I’ll hide you from Nate’s view while you indulge in a couple of sinful delights.”

Tugging her along behind him, Taz led her to the spread of sweet treats. True to his word, he stood in front of her while she ate two finger sandwiches and a chocolate petit that melted on her tongue. The rush of sugar drowned out all the sounds of sex surrounding her, and Kodi felt a moan of satisfaction vibrate from her core.

“Want to tell me why our sub is moaning in front of the snack table like she’s about to come with a smear of chocolate on her lips?” Nate’s voice startled her out of her convection induced trance, and she took a stumbling step back.

Shit! I can’t believe I closed my eyes and let him sneak up on me. Wait, how did he get in front of me?

“I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything quite like it. She didn’t even realize I’d stepped behind of her. I don’t know whether to give her more to see if she can actually orgasm from chocolate or paddle her ass for being so unaware of her surroundings.” Taz’s teasing tone made her smile, but Nate’s look was another story.
